I’m a retired tech exec, aspiring fiddle player and sometime apiarist. I live in Vancouver BC with Pete and Evil Kitty. I’ve lived in three countries (Canada, UK and USA) but have visited many more.
I’m looking for alternatives to social media.
I find most social media too broad brush and so I have been thinking of how to communicate better with friends. FaceBook, in particular, has become a swamp of re-posted fake news, photos of kids I don’t know, and comments from friends of friends (of friends). It is controlled by an algorithm that is constantly tweaked, but doesn’t seem to get better (unless you’re an advertiser, I guess). Instagram does a good job on photos, but wants to be more. Pinterest is helpful if you have a project to research like tiling a bathroom. I’m still not sure about Snapchat (or Snap as it’s now called). I use Twitter to follow breaking news, but it’s as cluttered as FaceBook. The more specialist social media (like GoodReads) are useful. So I’m trying a blog to keep friends informed. I’ll keep things short. I’ll recommend books or articles to read. I’ll show my favourite photos and some of our recent trips. I hope you enjoy it.
